I almost forgot how much I fucking love this music video... I was thinking of references of amazing silver pants a la the 90s kick I'm on- but hitting the rock scene of the 90s- not the grunge, not the 90210... but the fake spike foams, electric blues- and lame silver with your docs vibe...
and don't get me started on this iconic and EPIC music video... and about Billy Corgan... Darcys blue hair- and the first (and only so far) sexy and fuck asian guy... his outfit- his hair- and why I fucking LOVE pale guys with black hair... duh my big love - ya... I'm totally back in the 90s- but not the nirvana grunge vibe (even though kurt cobain was at the top of my loose my virginity to list and was heart broken when my nanny explained it was no longer a possibility in my life), not all of your "living single" and "90210 with kelly and dylan" version of the 90s-- but the mansons the pumpkins the lame and the rock star
side of the 90s...
ps- you're welcome...
and when you all start to follow my little lambs... I will be getting off pointing saying proof...
everyone has something, somewhere, or even someone that is there escape...
escape from the "real" world... questioning what is and isn't real... as a dadaist (dada: rejects all logic and reason, and prizes all nonsense, irrationality, and intuition)
I am aware that I live in my own little fantasy land... "jazzieland" if you will... I don't have an apartment- I just happen to sleep here I always say... I don't think I've met anyone whom has a throne in their "living" room- a gothic carousel they're building and constructing out of an old "wonder horse" (remember those plastic horses you used to sit on in the sandbox? drill a hole in the middle- use an antique cast iron rod with gorgeous detailing at the top salvaged from an old castle in France from the late 1860s, and mix some cement and I'm thinking of using an interesting large pot meant for some overgrown lush flowers you would find on the grounds of a beautiful estate type of vibe... and voila- a gothic carousel of your very own...
I get it- it's not the cookie cutter of what you and society has deemed "the norm"- but I don't care is the real point. I don't give a flying fuck to be honest... I live in my own happy little lala land that makes me feel happy and yes I walk outside with headphones on Jimi Hendrix my ride or die... and you might not stop and run across a street to take a photo of a beautiful inspiring piece of broken glass like I do- but that's ok... I'm at home when I'm on the stage, and in my studio... as a ballerina whom has been grateful of my opportunities my pointe shoes broken bones and emotional burst of pride I always danced like no one is watching because it's for me- it's how I feel and I tell you without saying one word- it has always rung true for me an artist period. I see pictures in my head- and I've seen these pictures ever since I could even remember- my dad told me recently that the teachers would ask him in for meetings because of the work I did was so drastically different from the rest of the kids in my nursery school, kindergarden (why has jazzie scratched the eyes out of these particular people...) to the family drawings which starting bringing in the therapists etc etc...) I express myself through and with my art... I get off on being "on stage" so to speak... I want to show you my work- have you judge it, I am that vulnerable because the bottom line is-- what the fuck do I have to loose... if anything- when YOU do judge it, take that time out of your busy schedules filled with your "lunch meetings" that ramble on about bullshit "projects in the works"- you may squeam at what I am fascinated by- you may run from the sight of bones or images of flesh still hanging on a bone from the Dahmer case... I zoom in and am drawn like a moth to the flame... bottom line is- we are not mind readers.... snide remarks, passive aggressive behaviors- you're really the big bitches of the world... talk behind my back and you're a scared little bitch who doesn't have the integrity (or the balls really) to say it to my face.
stop holding back
if you feel it- say it
go with your heart over your head... if not all at once... try it for one fucking day... see how it makes you feel... FEEL...
express what it is that you're feeling in an outlet of some sort. break a dish when you're fucking pissed off-
stop and compliment that stunning woman walking towards you that makes you stop and stare--- guess what COMPLIMENT HER... personally I'm a congratulator not a hater because every time someone stops me and compliments my outfit- my ballsy make up- or anything I want to burst from the genuine kindness that people surprise you with...
yesterday while I thought I would shut everyone up and swiped my new comfortable black for a deep Nars red instead... Hudson looks at me and says "you're really into death. I get it- your mom..." I paused and nodded... "ya I really am... why are you scared by it? there's almost something beautiful about it.. and I'm trying to see and starting to see that beautiful death now.." maybe it's a part of "the process" as it's deemed... in my own understanding and internal tumultuous and turbulant ride I've been on since April 30th of 2007... but it's inspired the living fuck out of me for this new editorial I'm obsessed with- and crossing my fingers the photographer that I've toyed the idea with- wants to make it happen... and get just the right publication who wants to glorify this story I have in my head with the pictures... the ones I love to set up and create the characters in... and tell my story... and my new one is inspired by the stunning old church my dad and I stumbled upon on fa-mothers day in Pasadena... this old gothic church... which is connected to a mortuary... covered in vines and made of brick with the great catheral ceilings and ivy covered garden walls... do you know how to tell if somewhere is a mortuary? there's a steeple at the top...
this inspired the idea for my new editorial... I want her to get married there... and the day she loves- is the day she dies... and it will be a beautiful wedding with a beautiful death.. the perfect ironic dichtomy.. what I live for- because it is what I am... I know when it's my time... I can only hope to watch the fashion artistic and beautiful interpretation my death will be... I want to make hers... my bride and casket to be's magical... and it's ok that I may creep you out- or give you a little spook like it's halloween... because guess what?
my new favorite nail combo I picked out at my new favorite nail spot, Couture Nails on Melrose... (they're amazing- and hanging around the mirrored tables and beautifully lacqured walls with plush chairs isn't painful to relax around as well my little monsters...) but I went with mix matching black, gunmetal and silver sparkles for a perfectly imperfect combination... for the girly girls- try mix matching shades of pink and red as a standout... feeling a bit more flashy? then put some neon on your nails and balance out maybe with two nails being half the neon shade and half the neutral hue, or a stripe in the middle for some contrast... either way- if you're going to pay someone to pamper your paws... change it up from your boring beige and your nearly nude snooze fests... and make your fingers fantastic... because they should be and they are dahling... Xx bella
As our guest stylist for this shoot, Nadine Silvestre let us pick her brain about the crazy world of fashion and check out the goodies she keeps in her toolkit:
Q: Let's start at the beginning, how did you become interesting in styling?
A: I went to Catholic school so I was never really able to play around with my style when I was younger. When I got a job at Urban Outfitters during my teens, I really discovered I could be creative in what I wore.
Q: How has attending FIDM shaped your style?
A: I've learned a lot about how fashion relates to life. It's not just the clothes; it's learning the history and being inspired by everything around you, from music to movies -- especially art. Those two years definitely made me more creative.
Q: Which designers inspire you?
A: I really love Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang. They do a lot of really great basic styles with funky cuts or non-traditional shapes. I love Lang's use of asymmetrical cuts, it makes everything look much more interesting than a basic hem.
Q: Outside of school, what experience do you have?
A: I have been assisting celebrity stylist Jazzie Bella, which means I help her on shoots, dropping off clothes, styling, basically whatever she needs. It's a hard industry to get your foot in the door so the more work you can do, the better.
Q: What kind of things do you keep in your stylist toolkit?
A: Since you never know what you might need, I keep everything from heavy-duty clamps from Home Depot (to pin clothes), toupee adhesive that acts as double-stick tape, scissors, a Tide-To-Go stick, lint rollers and safety pins to a notebook and pen, for taking notes.
Q: What accessory are you looking forward to this summer?
A: I've been making floral crowns, and those seem to be getting huge right now. I haven't worn them out yet, but I would love to see someone all in leather with a really girly pink flower crown.
in the fashion indsutry- unfortunately many of my peers have become jaded to say the least... I'm not ranting about a slamathon- but I will say all of the kids favorite "MAJ" "stylist" (I really don't see how you can morally accept a penny from picking out a pretty gown strappy sandals on a pretty girl and be so MAJ- I remember helping HER out when I was interning for Rock & Republic and she pleaded for me to gift one more shirt for N.R before the first season as her beat up blue bronco with smoke bursting through the hood rumbled up to our studio... funny how people get when they finally get to where they want...
but I don't believe in "interns"... everything that I had and have been through in this industry for the past 12 years (yes.. 12- I'm 27, started at 15 and so fucking proud of myself)- I knew I would treat the children (that's the term I like to use for intern) the way I wanted to be treated when I was making sure coffees stacked up to the cieling with spendas equals and their mail in tow... I wanted my children to learn- the purpose of an internship is to LEARN... and be a mentor to teach these children everything you possibly can about this industry...
it's a mentorship- and I still call and make sure to keep in touch with those whom have helped shape my career and guide me along the way... I'm pretty slutty in the sense I have many children- but my kids?? There have only been two... Nini (head of all visual corp Nordstorm now- SO PROUD OF MY NININININI!!!) and my assasin child Dine....
my kids impress me- and when you see your childs first independant interview?! my heart bursts... I'm so proud of you Dine.. and ps- mom has a new editorial that you're going to be finger dancing with me all the way through the church and mortuary all day every day twice a day especially on a Sunday... and the fashion weeks are approaching...
I'm so proud of you Dine, she has been the one that has reminded me the most of myself... she's hungry as fuck- ignores the rest of the world to grab this world by the balls-- and even through she's silent... she's leathal... she's my Lucy Liu... my assasin child... and any moment she has free she is STILL on fucking TOP of my shit- and making sure ...the.PERFECT... is running smooth like peanut butter.... and here is her first independant interview... I'm so fucking proud of you Dinaronni... arts & crafts and giggle juice night. maybe tonight? have the two fashion events tomorrow..
Xx mom

LA Fashion Week vs. NYC Fashion Week
Follow: Fashion Week 2012 , La Fashion Week , New York Fashion Week , New York Fashion Week 2012
With LA Fashion Week underway and NYC fashion week behind us, there are so many people who are asking me what the big differences are between the two. Does NYC really care about what is going on at LA Fashion Week? And how is fashion a reflection of the varying cultural attitudes and styles? So I sat down with my amazing LA based stylist, Jazzie Bella to chat and give an overview on some of these hotly debated issues.
LA Fashion Week is all about emerging designers. It prides itself on discovering "fresh faces." Most collections that are being shown during LA Fashion Week are from designers the average American hasn't heard of. This is what makes LA so special because it's interesting to see this media crazed town highlight new artistic talent. It's a great way to bring unique fashion back on the map. We are seeing these new designers doing more art-based installations for their collections inspired by LA and the west coast lifestyle.
Concept LA has had some smart, great new talent that we have discovered by attending. It is really promising and the highlight of LA Fashion Week that we have loved the most. The aim of Concept is to merge entertainment with some of the most relevant fashion designers, artists, and musicians of the moment. This five-day program of the arts incorporates all the elements of entertainment merging them together. It's a great vehicle for new artists to debut their talent.
At New York Fashion Week we get to see iconic designers showcase their collections at the fabulous Lincoln Center and previously The Tents at Bryant Park. There is a certain status that NYFW holds. The collections shown are recognizable to most people and are household names. New York also gets more notoriety because to many, New York is the fashion capital of the world. The media coverage is extensive and many A-list celebrities attend these shows and after parties.
NYC Fashionistas definitely take note about what is happening at LAFW but you won't see Anna Wintour attending these shows. The Internet and blogs are a get way for New Yorkers to catch up on what is happening on the west coast. After all, the next great thing could come out for LA and every NY fashionista wants to be the first to know about it!
On the runway at LAFW week you are going to see a more relaxed vibe taking a queue from the easy breezy LA lifestyle. Also a major influence at LA Fashion Week is designing for the red carpet where in NY the runway influences the fashion tastemakers. In LA you are not going to see gowns modeled after wedding cakes and over-the-top couture creations. Runway styles shown during NYFW are outrageous and sometimes unwearable. LA Fashion Week is about reinforcing trends and selling clothes people will actually wear.
One thing that is true about LA and NY is that whether you are a well-known designer or a newcomer to the fashion world, you are keeping your fingers crossed and hoping for excellent reviews. For the newcomers, it just takes one person who has a platform or one critic to tell people about your work. The established lines are just trying to stay on top and come out with the latest and greatest.
